Flood Displaces Over 200 Households in Kebbi Community

A severe flood has displaced more than 200 households in Zogirma, a community in Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State, following hours of heavy rainfall that left widespread destruction in its wake.

The torrential downpour, described by locals as the heaviest in recent memory, submerged homes, washed away farmlands, and destroyed food stores, forcing hundreds of residents to flee with barely any belongings.

In the aftermath of the disaster, Governor Nasir Idris paid a visit to the affected area on Thursday to commiserate with the victims. 

He announced a relief donation of ₦50 million to support those impacted by the flooding and assured the community of prompt government assistance.

“We are fully committed to restoring normalcy to Zogirma and providing the necessary support to every affected resident,” the governor said during his visit.

As part of recovery efforts, Governor Idris also approved the renovation of the District Head’s palace and upgraded the Government Day Secondary School in Zogirma to a boarding facility. 

To support the renovation project, he pledged an additional ₦10 million to the District Head, Alhaji Mohammed Jambo Tele.

In appreciation, the district head commended the governor’s visit and support, describing it as a reassuring gesture to the community in their time of need.

Similarly, the Chairman of Bunza Local Government, Zayyanu Shehu Bunza, thanked the governor for his prompt response, stating that the intervention would help ease the suffering of affected families and offer them hope.

Meanwhile, the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has begun the distribution of relief materials to victims. According to the agency’s chairman, Bello Yakubu, the items include 100 bags each of rice, sorghum, and millet, along with tomatoes and other basic food supplies.

Governor Idris concluded his visit by expressing gratitude to residents for their continued support of his administration, reaffirming his commitment to delivering effective governance and lasting development across Kebbi State.
