Only Two Men Can Stop Me From 2027 Presidential Race – Datti Baba-Ahmed

Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed has revealed he may contest Nigeria’s presidency in 2027, but only if two unnamed individuals he holds in high regard opt out of the race.

The Labour Party chieftain made the disclosure during a live interview on Arise News, where he clarified that he has not formally decided on running. 

His remarks come at a time when the opposition Labour Party is battling a leadership split between factions led by Julius Abure and former minister Usman Nenadi.

On July 21, Baba-Ahmed met with Abure’s group to discuss party issues and recent developments in Nigeria’s opposition landscape, particularly the formation of a new coalition operating under the African Democratic Congress (ADC). 

That bloc features top political players including Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi, and David Mark, all seen as potential 2027 contenders.

Despite speculation, Baba-Ahmed remains loyal to the LP and sceptical about switching camps. “Convince me to join the ADC, because right now, I’m not,” he said. “I want Peter Obi to run again under LP, even if I’m not on the ticket.”

He also dismissed accusations suggesting he had distanced himself from Obi. “People twist words. There’s full electronic documentation of what I said. I never abandoned Obi,” he insisted.

He reaffirmed his dedication to Obi’s political future, saying, “I backed Peter Obi wholeheartedly before and I’ll do it again. 

"Unless those two people I admire greatly withdraw from the race, I have no intention to run. My mission is simple, end the killings, stop the stealing.”
