US Cautions Nigerians Against Using Visas for Childbirth

Visa

The United States Mission in Nigeria has issued a fresh advisory targeting Nigerians planning to travel to the U.S. primarily to give birth so their children can automatically acquire American citizenship.

In a post shared on Monday via its official X (formerly Twitter) account, the U.S. Mission noted that that traveling to the U.S with such intentions is a violation of visa regulations and would result in denial of entry.

“Using your visa to travel for the primary purpose of giving birth in the United States so that your child will have U.S. citizenship is not permitted,” the statement read.

“Consular officers will deny your visa application if they have reason to believe this is your intent.”

Earlier, the U.S. Department of State adjusted its visa reciprocity policy for Nigeria, limiting most non-immigrant, non-diplomatic visas to single entry and reducing their validity to three months.
