Rights activist and political commentator, Deji Adeyanju, has stirred fresh debate on social media after claiming that many deeply religious Nigerians are the most “dubious and heartless.”
Adeyanju, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), sighted by newsmen, alleged that some individuals who present themselves as prayerful and holy engage in acts that put innocent lives at risk.
He wrote: “The more religious a Nigerian is, the more dubious, heartless, wicked and evil they are likely to be. Never forget there are tongue speaking prayer warriors who manufacture fake drugs for children in this country.
“And they even give offering and tithe.”
However, the comment attracted a wave of reactions online, with many describing it as controversial, especially as it comes at a time when Adeyanju is locked in a disagreement with Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi.
It was earlier reported that Peter Obi threatened legal action against Nigerian lawyer and activist, Deji Adeyanju, over alleged defamation.
In the notice issued by Obi’s legal team, they referenced Adeyanju’s persistent criticisms of the former governor, including a past claim that Obi once attempted to offer him money during a private meeting.
“He tried to give me money and called it thank you for coming, it’s 100% true,” Adeyanju alleged in an earlier post, insisting it was an attempt to buy his loyalty.
The notice also highlighted a recent post dated August 21, where Adeyanju accused Obi of investing state funds in a company linked to his family during his tenure in office.
