The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed remarks by Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, insisting that its opposition coalition remains a credible force ahead of the 2027 elections.
Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s vice-presidential candidate in 2023, had described the coalition under the ADC as “deceiving Nigerians” and unfit to deliver meaningful development during a Channels TV show yesterday.
He also hinted at the possibility of running alongside Peter Obi in the next polls.
Reacting to the criticism, ADC Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Jackie Wayas, said the senator’s comments were personal and did not reflect the collective aspirations of the coalition partners.
“Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed is respected for his principles, but the coalition is bigger than individuals. It is a joint project that requires unity and sacrifice, and we hope he joins hands to strengthen this vision,” Wayas said.
The coalition, formed after wide consultations, brings together major political figures including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Senator David Mark, Rotimi Amaechi, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, and Peter Obi.
Peter Obi had earlier confirmed his commitment to the alliance, stressing that Nigeria’s transformation demands collaboration across political divides.
“No single group can transform Nigeria alone. To dismantle the structures fueling poverty and insecurity, we must build bridges, not walls. A new Nigeria is possible,” Obi said in his July 3 statement.
The ADC reiterated that its mission is to unite opposition forces and provide Nigerians with a leadership that is competent, compassionate, and focused on the people’s welfare.
