The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has clinched victory in the Bagwai/Shanono State Constituency by-election in Kano State, with its candidate, Ali Lawal Alhassan, emerging winner over the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that Alhassan polled 16,198 votes, while his closest rival, Ahmad Muhammad Kadamu of the APC, recorded 5,347 votes, a difference of 10,851 votes.
The election, held on Saturday, August 16, was conducted to fill the vacant seat left by the late Halilu Ibrahim Kundila, the former lawmaker representing the constituency, who died in April.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Hassan Adamu Shitu, declared the outcome in the early hours of Sunday, officially confirming Alhassan as the duly elected candidate.
“The candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner,” Prof. Shitu stated.
