Obi Out To Destroy Labour Party — Abure

Peter Obi

The Labour Party has slammed its former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, accusing him of deliberately working against the party ahead of the August 16, 2025 bye-elections.

National Chairman Julius Abure condemned Obi’s recent call for members to vote for another party, describing the directive as “mischievous, misleading, and delusional.”

“Peter Obi is now on a mission to destroy the same party that gave him a platform,” Abure said in a statement posted on the Labour Party social media accounts.

“He thrives on political subterfuge, jumps from one position to another without principle, and has become a paradox in Nigeria’s politics.”

Abure alleged that Obi was at the centre of the crisis rocking the Labour Party, citing his role alongside Abia State Governor Alex Otti in convening an “illegal stakeholders’ meeting” in Umuahia on September 4, 2024, a move the party says intensified internal divisions.

“After enjoying massive goodwill from our leadership, he repaid us with betrayal,” Abure stated.

“His desperation to seize control has driven him to fund factional battles and even lead protests against his own party.”

The party insisted that despite Obi’s actions, its candidates remain on the ballot and are fully prepared for the bye-election.

“We urge our members and supporters nationwide to stay focused and deliver victory for the Labour Party,” Abure added.

“This election is about protecting the soul of our party from those trying to strangle it from within.”

According to the party, Nigerians are now “seeing through Obi’s political games” and will respond at the polls.
