Presidency Mocks ADC, SDP, PDP Woeful By-Election Outcome

The Presidency has taken a swipe at opposition parties over their defeat in the recently concluded by-elections, ridiculing the poor outing of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition, the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Presidential aide, Bayo Onanuga, on Monday morning, posted a picture of opposition leaders, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, with the caption “How market,” a sarcastic jab at their failure to make significant gains in the polls.

The remark came after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victories in most of the August 16 by-elections across several states.

Onanuga’s post has sparked positive and negative reactions online, with many interpreting it as the Presidency’s way of emphasising the growing weakness of the opposition in the face of the APC’s dominance.

The by-elections, conducted by INEC in different states, were largely in favour of the APC, further strengthening the party’s grip ahead of the 2027 general elections.

While the PDP, SDP, and the ADC coalition had boasted of making strong showings in the polls, their performance fell below expectations, giving the APC an upper hand.
