The attention of the Ibadan South East Local Government has been drawn to a misleading and malicious report circulating on social media, alleging that unknown gunmen sent by the Executive Chairman arrested Hon. Afeez Akinkunmi Akinpelu, Councillor representing Ward 2.
We wish to state categorically that this claim is false, misleading, and baseless.
For the record, Hon. Afeez Akinpelu was arrested by the SWAT unit of the Nigeria Police Force following investigations into criminal allegations involving the printing and circulation of fake Oyo State revenue receipts. This is a serious offence that undermines the integrity of government revenue systems.
It is also worth noting that this is not his first alleged involvement in such acts. A similar case was linked to him during the administration of Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala while he was serving at the Oyo State Housing Corporation.
The arrest had nothing to do with the Executive Chairman, the Oyo State Government, or any political vendetta. It is a matter of law enforcement responding to alleged criminal activity.
We urge the public to disregard the fake news being circulated and allow due process of law to take its course.
