Popular Nigerian TikTok creator, Peller has voiced strong frustration over a hefty tax demand he received from the Lagos State Government, describing it as unfair and excessive.
In a recent livestream session with singer Peruzzi, Peller revealed that the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) had asked him to pay an income tax of N36 million.
“They want me to cough up N36 million in tax. I just became popular last year, so this is too much for me,” Peller said during the live broadcast.
Peruzzi responded by reminding him of the legal obligation to pay taxes in Nigeria, sharing that his own tax payments far exceed the amount demanded from Peller.
“Do you know the responsibility you have to pay taxes as a Nigerian? I pay more than that, but I’m not airing my tax matters here,” Peruzzi noted.
He also warned Peller to clear his tax dues promptly to avoid legal consequences, including possible imprisonment.
Despite this, Peller maintained that the tax figure was unreasonable and pointed out that the government had never supported him financially during his TikTok live streams.
He added that the tax demand may be a result of him publicly showcasing his wealth and openly discussing his earnings from TikTok.
Peruzzi advised Peller to request additional time from the tax authorities to manage the payment.
However, Peller stressed that his income stems primarily from social media platforms and not from traditional Nigerian businesses.
Other content creators have also voiced out about the high tax due the Nigerian government is asking them to pay.
