Former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has urged Nigerians to unite in efforts to unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections
He also warned that another term for the ruling party could endanger the country’s future.
El-Rufai issued the call during a visit to Sokoto State where he met with political stakeholders, youth organisations and women groups across the state’s 23 local government areas as part of a wider grassroots mobilisation campaign.
He described the APC as “incompetent and clannish,” warning that the party’s continued stay in power posed a threat to the country’s unity and progress.
Addressing the gatherings, El-Rufai stressed the need for urgent action to rescue Nigeria from what he called years of failed leadership and deteriorating governance.
“I didn’t get into politics to enrich myself but to serve. And when a government ceases to serve the people, it is my duty as a senior citizen to not only speak out but take action to reverse the situation,” he said.
He revealed that the opposition coalition had adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a unifying platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said, “If we allow this APC government another term, what remains of Nigeria’s social fabric may be destroyed. This is the fight of our lives.”
El-Rufai also disclosed that mobilisation efforts would continue across the country to build momentum against the ruling party in preparation for the next election cycle.
At one of the events in Sokoto, an opposition figure, Abubakar Gada, reiterated the coalition’s readiness to deliver capable and accountable leadership at both state and federal levels.
