Former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has formally declared his intention to return to the state’s top seat in 2027 while pledging strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
The announcement came during a voter awareness programme held in Badagry, aimed at encouraging residents to register and collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ahead of the next general elections.
Speaking through the Director-General of the Tinubu-Ambo Support Group, Dr. Seyi Bamigbade, Ambode called on Lagosians to take an active role in shaping the future of both the state and the country.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has shown that he can steer Nigeria with courage and vision.
"Giving him another four years will ensure the progress we are beginning to see becomes fully entrenched,” Ambode said.
He added that his decision to contest the Lagos governorship in 2027 was driven by a desire to build on past successes while addressing emerging challenges in the state.
“I am offering myself once again to serve Lagos with renewed commitment, a fresh vision, and practical solutions to the realities our people face today,” the former governor declared.
Dr. Bamigbade explained that the sensitisation exercise was designed to strengthen voter participation and ensure that no eligible citizen is left out of the democratic process.
“Our campaign is simple: no PVC, no voting. We believe both President Tinubu and Mr. Ambode represent a continuity of progress, stability, and people-centred governance,” Bamigbade said.
The 2027 elections are expected to shape the next phase of Lagos and Nigeria’s political direction, with key political figures already setting the stage for what analysts predict could be one of the country’s most closely watched electoral cycles.
