Oyo PDP Dares Wike's Camp, Insists National Convention Will Hold On Their Terms

The Oyo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asserted that the party is poised to cleanse itself of internal sabotage and regain its focus during the upcoming national convention.

The statement follows warnings from supporters of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, who, under the group Eminent Leaders and Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP, threatened that the convention could be deemed “invalid” if certain demands were overlooked.

The Wike faction, while acknowledging the zoning arrangement ratified by the National Executive Committee (NEC), insisted that micro-zoning should be avoided. 

They emphasised that the National Chairman position should remain in the North-Central, in line with the 2021 convention formula.

Responding, Oyo PDP Publicity Secretary Micheal Ogunsina dismissed the Wike camp’s threats as irrelevant. 

Speaking to Punch, he described the November 15–16 convention in Ibadan as an “unstoppable” event.

“The PDP has dared Nyesom Wike to test his limits. No leader lasts forever; history has shown that. The Ibadan convention on November 15 and 16 is set in stone. Nothing can derail it,” Ogunsina said.

He further emphasised that the convention would usher in new leadership aimed at rejuvenating the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Fresh leadership will emerge to realign the PDP, eliminate internal sabotage, and set the party free to focus on its true mission,” Ogunsina added.
