Peter Obi Announces Public Break After Falling Ill

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has announced a brief pause from public engagements after doctors advised him to rest for a few days.

In a statement released on Saturday, Obi revealed that he began to feel unwell while attending a tourism programme in Enugu, prompting him to seek medical attention.

“After undergoing checks, my doctor prescribed some medication and advised me to take one or two days off my usual schedule,” Obi explained. 

“I regret any inconvenience this may cause and sincerely ask for your understanding.”

Despite stepping away temporarily, Obi assured supporters that he remains committed to his political and social engagements. 

“This is only a short rest,” he said. “I’ll be back to my activities as soon as I recover fully.”

Before his health concern, Obi had been on a busy tour across the Southeast. 

He visited the Good Hope Specialist Hospital in Isulo, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, a facility being acquired by the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria.

The former governor made a personal donation of ₦10 million to support the Diocese’s effort to revive and expand the hospital. 

He was conducted around the facility by Ven. Dr. Kamtochukwu Obi, Chairman of the Aguata Diocesan Hospital Board, who shared plans to transform it into a comprehensive healthcare centre with a nursing, midwifery, and health technology school.

“Healthcare is one of the best investments we can make as a nation,” Obi stated during the visit. 

“Faith-based organisations have consistently shown they can deliver quality care when supported. Together, we can build a healthier Nigeria.”

Obi also stopped in Owerri, Imo State, to attend a private dinner hosted by Barrister Nnaemeka Maduagwu in honour of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, before his condition worsened.

He reiterated that the decision to slow down was purely on medical advice and would only affect engagements scheduled for the weekend.

Political allies and supporters have since sent well-wishes, urging the former governor to prioritise his health before returning to his rigorous national engagements.
