The Aresaadu of Iresaadu, His Royal Majesty Oba Abraham Olafimihan Adeyeye Oyerinde, has appealed to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde to approve and release his accumulated entitlements and official paraphernalia of office, alleging that some officials in the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters are plotting to install a parallel monarch in Iresaadu.
In an open letter to the governor dated October 28, 2025, the monarch said his appointment was duly made by the immediate past administration of late Governor Abiola Ajimobi on May 24, 2019, after a transparent selection process supervised by Surulere Local Government officials.
He alleged that since Governor Makinde assumed office in 2019, all his written appeals for recognition and payment of entitlements had been frustrated by officials with inordinate personal interests, despite several legal advisories and a subsisting court judgment in his favour.
The letter reads in part: “I have exhausted all means of appeal since Your Excellency assumed office, but it came to my knowledge that some officials within the government who have inordinate personal interest blocked the correspondence from getting your attention.”
According to him, the Oyo State High Court sitting in Orile-Igbon had on February 2, 2021, in Suit No. HOI/19/2020, affirmed his appointment as Aresaadu and ordered the state government to recognise him and pay all entitlements due to the stool from May 2019 till date.
He added that efforts by aggrieved individuals to overturn the judgment were dismissed by the same court on February 17, 2025, while the Ministry of Justice in three separate legal opinions, the latest dated January 11, 2024, also recommended his full recognition and payment of arrears.
Oba Oyerinde further alleged that despite these directives, the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters recently instructed Surulere Local Government to begin a fresh selection process for another candidate to be appointed as a parallel Aresaadu, describing the move as a sinister plan capable of plunging Iresaadu into chaos.
He recalled that a similar attempt in May 2024 was halted after he raised alarm through the press, which led to the redeployment of the then Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Segun Olayiwola.
The monarch also accused some local government officials of forging documents in 2020 to falsely indicate that the governor had stopped his installation, a claim he said was investigated but not concluded, while the officials allegedly continued to collect budgetary allocations and allowances meant for the Aresaadu’s office without remitting them.
“Surulere Local Government continues to budget and collect allowances meant for me from the Ministry for years, even after my installation, without disbursing same to me, as well as withholding my official vehicle and police orderly.” the letter further stated.
Oba Oyerinde appealed to the governor to approve and release his long-overdue entitlements and paraphernalia of office and to order a thorough investigation into alleged misconduct within the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters to bring the culprits to justice.
He expressed confidence that Governor Makinde, whom he described as a leader known for fairness and respect for the rule of law, would act swiftly to resolve the lingering issues surrounding the stool of Aresaadu of Iresaadu.
Supporting documents, including his letter of appointment, court judgment and legal advice from the Ministry of Justice, are to accompany the open letter.
