In a bold move to reenergize Nigeria’s fight against insecurity, President Bola Tinubu has approved a complete overhaul of the nation’s military leadership, appointing new Service Chiefs to lead the Armed Forces.
The President named General Olufemi Oluyede as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa. Other key changes include Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. Major-General E.A.P.
Undiendeye, however, remains in his role as Chief of Defence Intelligence.
According to a statement from the Presidency, the changes reflect Tinubu’s commitment to revamping the security sector and ensuring greater synergy among the armed services.
“The President believes fresh leadership will bring renewed energy and focus to the ongoing battle against insecurity in all parts of the country,” said Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication.
Tinubu commended the outgoing Service Chiefs, particularly General Musa, for their years of selfless service and leadership, describing them as “patriots who gave their best to protect the nation.”
He urged the new military commanders to justify the confidence placed in them by embracing professionalism, discipline, and unity of purpose.
“The expectations of Nigerians are high, and the new Service Chiefs must rise to meet them,” the statement added.
The appointments take effect immediately, marking what observers see as one of Tinubu’s most decisive steps yet to reinforce Nigeria’s security institutions and restore public trust in the Armed Forces.
