Tinubu Nominates Bernard Doro as New Minister, Seeks Senate Approval

Bernard Doro

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Dr Bernard Mohammed Doro from Plateau State as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, forwarding his name to the Senate for screening and confirmation.

The announcement was made on Tuesday through a statement by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

According to the letter transmitted to the National Assembly, Dr Doro’s nomination is intended to fill the vacant ministerial position for Plateau State, following the elevation of Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda to National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in July. Yilwatda had previously served as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction before assuming the party’s top leadership role.

Dr Doro, born on January 23, 1969, in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, is a seasoned professional with over 20 years of experience across healthcare, pharmaceutical management, leadership strategy, and community development in both Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

He holds multiple academic qualifications, including degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA specialising in IT-driven business strategy, and a Master’s degree in Advanced Clinical Practice.

Dr Doro is also recognised as an Independent Prescriber and Advanced Clinical Practitioner within the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), where he has worked in various medical environments such as general practice, walk-in centres, urgent care, and hospital settings.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, he is deeply engaged in mentoring young professionals and supporting social impact initiatives within both the Nigerian diaspora and local communities.

A presidential source described Doro as “a competent technocrat with the right blend of expertise and public service commitment needed to strengthen the federal cabinet.”

The Senate is expected to commence the screening process in the coming days, in line with the President’s request.
