Fast-rising Nigeria Afrobeat Singer, Ayo Mafoluku, well known as Ayo Maff, has revealed that acting has long been a personal passion, as he made his debut on the big screen.
Speaking at the NECLive 2025 panel on “Funding the Creative Enterprise Ecosystem,” Ayo explained how years of shooting music videos inspired him to explore film.
“I wanted to see myself in a movie,” he said. “I was happy to take this role and embrace the opportunity.”
The event held on Friday at the Landmark Centre in Lagos saw gospel singer Gaise Baba, content creator Kiekie, journalist Lamide Akintobi and others in attendance.
The panel, moderated by Gbemi Olateru-Olagbegi, focused on how creatives can protect and monetize their work. Ayo’s story reflected the broader theme of the discussion, emphasising financial planning, legal safeguards, and risk management as essential foundations for any creative career.

He made his acting debut in Chronicles of Afrobeats, a documentary-style film produced by music executive Bankulli. The premiere took place at the 2025 Entertainment Week Africa event held at Ebonylife Cinema, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The documentary traces the origins and global rise of Afrobeats through archival footage, interviews, and contributions from over 200 personalities who have shaped the genre. Its first episode, titled The Sound, explores how traditional sounds like Fuji, Juju, and Highlife laid the foundation for modern Afrobeats.
At the premiere, Ayo joined Bankulli and other industry figures for the screening. His participation marks a personal milestone and highlights the growing trend of Nigerian creatives embracing multiple disciplines.
Known for songs like ‘Dealer’ featuring Fireboy DML and his 2024 EP Maffian.
