I Cry For This Country – Wike Reacts After Clash With Military Officer

Nyesom Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says he is saddened by what he described as the country’s deep-seated sentimentality, especially in public discourse.

Wike spoke on Thursday during a media briefing held shortly after the FCT Executive Committee meeting, where he addressed the public reactions trailing his confrontation with a military officer.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, involved the Minister and officials of the FCT Administration who reportedly engaged soldiers in Abuja during an attempt to gain access to a disputed land.

Reacting to the controversy, Wike said, “Nobody knows the day he will die or how he will die. I cry for this country because we either tribalize everything that happens or bring religion into what we are doing.

“No country, no matter how hard you work, can ever succeed if we continue to allow impunity and lawlessness.”

He stressed that the FCT Administration would continue to enforce due process and resist any form of intimidation in the discharge of its duties.
