Dr Adewole Oladokun, President of the Leadership Role Model Association (LRMA), says leadership deficiency is one of the challenges confronting Nigeria as a nation.
Oladokun stated this on Saturday during a Leadership Redefined Conference (LRC) organised by the association on Saturday in Ibadan.
The conference is designed to bring together aspiring leaders, mentors, and change makers for a transformative experience of dialogue, capacity building, and strategic networking.
The LRMA president said that Nigeria blessed with brilliant human and material resources ougt to have gotten it right and discover those that would properly lead the country.
Oladokun called on Nigerians to view leadership as a joint responsibility of both the leaders and followers and everyone must perform their duties effectively in order to have a great nation and overcome the country's leadership deficiency.
"This conference is organised to encourage voices to speak to not just in medicine, agriculture but across all platforms so that we can come together for us to achieve transformational leaders in Nigeria and the world in general.
"The gathering here is full with people and by the grace of God the type of leaders the country need would come from this people," he said.
Oladokun said that leadership must not be by age but by the ability to perform credibly,.
According to him, there are some instances where elders have failed in their leadership roles while younger people are doing well in such leadership role.
The convener said everybody both old and young should be given opportunity to lead and shun the stereotype of saying younger people can't perform credibly.
He called on Nigerians to be good in character and improve their knowledge in order to have good people in the society who would eventually be a good leader the country desire.
"But if we have bad people in the society the leader will be selected from the pool of those bad people and then we will have bad leader and the country will be bad.
"So what we can do is to start to be good ourself, start the leadership from your little corner and do the right thing from your little corner and the country will be good," he said.
In her remarks, Mrs Hannah Oyebanjo, called on Nigeria youth to get prepare to harness the huge opportunity for the development of Nigeria.
Oyebanjo urged the youth to be upright in character, moral, skill, leverage on technology and remain focus in order for them to succeed in life.
Also speaking, the former Deputy Speaker, Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon.Remmy Hazzan, said ethical leadership and integrity which form institutional framework was lacking in the current society.
Hazzan called on Nigerians to be trustworthy and accountable in all their dealing in order to have a better society and build institution that work.
The conference feature other keynote speakers, panel discussions and workshop centered on ethical leadership, innovation and sustainable impact.
