Nigeria Crushes Gabon 4–1 To Reach World Cup Playoff Final

Super Eagles

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have stormed into the final stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after a commanding 4–1 victory over Gabon in Rabat, Morocco.

The thrilling encounter saw the Nigerian side display grit and class, overcoming a late Gabonese fightback to seal their place in the playoff final.

After a cagey first half, Nigeria broke the deadlock in the 78th minute through Akor Adams, who calmly slotted home following a neat build-up from the right flank.

However, Gabon found a late lifeline when Mario Lemina equalised in the 89th minute, forcing the game into extra time.

The Super Eagles regained control almost immediately as Chidera Ejuke restored their lead in the 97th minute with a composed finish.

Victor Osimhen then took charge of the tie, netting twice in quick succession, in the 102nd and 110th minutes, to complete a resounding 4–1 win for Nigeria.

The victory sends Nigeria to the final playoff round of the CAF World Cup qualifiers, where they will battle for a coveted spot at the 2026 World Cup to be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

With this result, Nigeria continue their push to return to the global stage after missing out on the 2022 edition.
