Oyo Police Enhances Security on Highways, Calls For Responsible Information Sharing

The Oyo State Police Command has announced that it is taking steps to counter the troubling spread of misinformation regarding security in the state, particularly along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

This is according to a statement signed by the Police Spokesperson, CSP Osifeso Adewale, mnipr.

According to the police, there has been recent incidents involving false claims and video clips that suggest abductions and dangerous situations in the Onigari area of the expressway. The command would to emphasize that these claims are incorrect and contribute to unwarranted panic among the public, likely driven by individuals with malicious intent.

In light of these issues, the Oyo State Police Command, in partnership with the Ogun State Police Command and the Ogun-Oyo Joint Security Committee, has notably increased its security presence on key highways and related routes entering and exiting the state. The actions include more visible patrols, intelligence-led Stop and Search operations, and enhanced monitoring of border communities, all aimed at ensuring the safety of travelers and residents alike, providing them with reassurance during their travels.

The command says the effectiveness of it’s current security measures led to the recent successful hosting of a Mega Music concert, which drew attendees from various parts of the country to Oyo State, along with a national convention, as numerous visitors were able to travel safely in and out of the state.

The police however claims the ongoing dissemination of outdated and misleading video content appears to be an effort to incite unrest and anxiety.

The public is therefore advised to be cautious and to avoid sharing unverified information. Responsible sharing of news is crucial for building a safe community and reducing unnecessary fear. The Oyo State Police Command says it is ready to pursue legal action against anyone disseminating false information that could provoke public disorder.

The police command encourages the community to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
