The congregation of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, comprising teaching and non-teaching staff with a minimum of a university degree or its equivalent, has lauded the Acting Rector, Dr. Taiwo Abideen Lasisi, for his exemplary administrative leadership and for sustaining peace and stability within the institution.
The commendations came after a detailed presentation by Dr. Lasisi at the 1000 Capacity Hall, where he highlighted key developments and achievements recorded by his administration in recent months.
Members of the congregation observed that under Dr. Lasisi’s leadership, the management has maintained a smooth and uninterrupted academic calendar for the 2024/2025 academic session while successfully securing the accreditation and re-accreditation of 35 academic programmes.
In addition, three new programmes — National Diploma in Crime Management, Higher National Diploma in Fashion Design and Clothing Technology, and Higher National Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology (Environmental Biology Option) — recently underwent inspection and evaluation by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). Three other programmes, ND Chemical Engineering, ND Transportation Planning and Management, and ND Food Technology, have also been presented to the NBTE for verification ahead of their full accreditation.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Poly Ibadan Branch, commended the Acting Rector for his patience, listening disposition, and transparency in handling staff welfare and financial obligations. He noted that the Rector has consistently ensured prompt payment of entitlements and swiftly resolved issues that could have led to industrial unrest, emphasizing his preference for dialogue and mutual understanding.
He also expressed appreciation to the Oyo State Governor for his continued support to the Polytechnic, especially through regular salary payments and financial assistance towards programme accreditation.
In the same vein, the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association, Mr. Abiodun Abegunde, praised Dr. Lasisi for his proactive management style, which has helped to prevent disputes from escalating into crises. He noted that the Rector and his team have made notable personal sacrifices to sustain peace and industrial harmony within the institution. Abegunde assured the continued cooperation of the union, stressing that dialogue has been a key factor in achieving the current atmosphere of stability.
Other members of staff who reacted to the Rector’s presentation also pledged their continued support and commitment to the institution’s growth and development.
Earlier in his address, Dr. Lasisi outlined the efforts that led to the recent accreditation successes and acknowledged the unwavering support of the state governor in the institution’s operations. He assured that, as was achieved in the previous session, certificates for the 2024/2025 graduates would be ready before their convocation.
The Acting Rector further disclosed that the institution now enjoys stable electricity supply, with all outstanding energy-related debts — including diesel payments — already cleared. He announced the establishment of an Energy Management Committee and the installation of prepaid meters in staff quarters and strategic areas across the campus.
Dr. Lasisi reaffirmed his administration’s openness to constructive suggestions from staff and students, adding that every decision taken under his leadership would prioritize the collective interest of the Polytechnic community.
