Nigeria’s Senate is preparing for a swift confirmation process as lawmakers move to screen President Bola Tinubu’s nominee for Defence Minister, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, during Wednesday’s plenary session.

According to information released by Senate Majority Leader Opeyemi Bamidele, the chamber has officially received President Tinubu’s request seeking Musa’s confirmation.

Moreover, the communication is expected to be formally read during Wednesday’s sitting before legislators open the floor for the screening exercise.

Bamidele said the Senate intends to act without hesitation given the national security climate.

“This is a sensitive period for Nigeria’s defence architecture,” he said. “We cannot delay a request that directly concerns the safety and stability of our country.”

He stressed that speeding up the process aligns with the Senate’s commitment to strengthening security leadership, noting that lawmakers understand the urgency tied to the appointment.

Further developments are expected once the letter is presented and deliberations begin, signalling a decisive move toward filling a strategic cabinet role at a crucial moment for national security.
