Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has explained the rationale behind his engagement with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing the discussion as a strategic intervention aimed at stabilising Kano State and accelerating long-delayed development priorities.
According to the governor, the meeting was not ceremonial but driven by urgent concerns that require direct federal attention, particularly around security pressures and infrastructure gaps affecting everyday life in the state.
Speaking after the engagement, Yusuf said the deteriorating security situation in parts of Kano informed his decision to seek presidential support, noting that recent violent incidents underscored the need for coordinated national action.
“The safety of our people cannot be handled in isolation,” the governor said. “When innocent lives are lost, it becomes a collective responsibility that demands federal and state alignment.”
Moreover, Yusuf highlighted how community-based security efforts, including the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps, are complementing conventional security agencies, while stressing that stronger intelligence sharing and operational backing from federal institutions remain essential.
On the economic front, the governor said discussions also centred on unlocking Kano’s commercial potential through large-scale infrastructure, which he described as critical to employment generation and long-term growth.
He specifically acknowledged federal intervention on the Wujuwuju Road project, saying the initiative would open new economic corridors and ease movement for businesses and residents alike.
“That project is more than a road,” Yusuf said. “It represents opportunity, mobility, and renewed investor confidence in Kano.”
Furthermore, the governor requested expedited execution of other federal projects within the state, arguing that timely delivery would ensure Kano benefits fully from national development programmes.
In response, Yusuf said President Tinubu reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to partnering with Kano on security stabilisation and sustainable development, assuring that cooperation would remain open and practical.
Hence, the governor described the meeting as a necessary step toward strengthening federal-state relations in a manner that prioritises public safety, economic resilience, and inclusive progress.
