Man Hospitalised for Mental Health Care After Wife Ran Away With ‘Okada’ Rider

A Kenyan man who can be identified as Wanjohi wa Kigogoini, has been admitted to a mental wellness facility after suffering emotional distress linked to the collapse of his marriage. 

Kigogoini, who recently gained public attention through frequent calls to a popular vernacular radio station, confirmed his admission by sharing photos from the mental health centre on Thursday, January 1, 2026. His situation has since sparked widespread discussion on social media and among radio listeners in Nairobi and other parts of the country.

Sources close to him disclosed that Wanjohi struggled to cope after his wife reportedly left their five-year marriage and eloped with a commercial motorcycle operator, commonly known as a boda boda rider in Kenya. 

Friends and associates said the development took a severe emotional toll on him, particularly as he found it difficult to accept that his wife left despite what he described as the significant financial and emotional investments he made before and after their elaborate wedding.

 

According to those close to him, Wanjohi became increasingly withdrawn, unable to focus on his work or attend to basic daily needs, prompting concerns about his wellbeing. This eventually led relatives and friends to seek professional medical help, resulting in his admission to a mental health facility for assessment and treatment. 

Images circulating online show Wanjohi receiving care, with many social media users expressing sympathy, offering words of encouragement, and wishing him a speedy recovery.

The case first drew public attention after Wanjohi made an emotional call during a live phone-in programme on a popular vernacular radio station, where he openly spoke about his marital struggles and efforts to please his wife. 

During the broadcast, he revealed that his wife had walked out of their marriage, triggering strong reactions from the programme’s hosts and listeners. He further claimed that the pain was compounded by the fact that his wife allegedly left him for a boda boda rider he personally knew, describing the experience as a double betrayal that deeply affected his mental state.
