Prophet Joseph Adeleye Abiona Gegeoju JP, popularly known as Arole Babalola, has raised fresh concerns over the lingering leadership crisis rocking the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), warning that the continued division is discouraging members and weakening the church’s spiritual foundation.
The cleric, who is the Prophet of Christ Apostolic Church, Jerusalem of Africa, Babalola Mega City, Ikotun-Ile, Kwara State, made the call while addressing journalists at a press conference held on Tuesday at the Power Apostolic Church International, Agbowo, Ibadan.
Prophet Abiona, who spoke through Pastor Joshua Omogbayi, lamented what he described as deep-rooted disunity among CAC leaders and members, stressing that the church, which was founded on the principle of unity, has drifted far from its original vision.
“Our beloved church was founded on the God-given motto, ‘One Fold, One Shepherd,’ as recorded in John 10:16,”.
“This vision was entrusted to our founding fathers, led by the great Apostle Joseph Ayodele Babalola. Sadly, what we see today is a painful contradiction of that divine mandate.” he said.
According to him, the existence of three different leadership structures within the CAC has caused confusion, discouragement and mass exit of members from the denomination.
He listed the factions as being led by Pastor Samuel Olusegun Oladele, Pastor Henry Ojo and Pastor Abraham Ayodele, all operating from separate secretariats in Ibadan.
“This level of fragmentation is not of God. Instead of gathering more sheep into the fold, we are losing members because of division, lack of love and the emergence of self-acclaimed, power-drunk leaders who have abandoned the laid-down ordinances of the church,” he said.
The prophet, who described himself as a custodian of the mantle of Apostle Joseph Ayodele Babalola, warned that the frequent resort to secular courts to resolve internal disputes has further weakened the church spiritually.
“The Holy Spirit is the true custodian of the church. When we run to worldly courts, we grieve Him, and His manifest presence diminishes from our midst,” he added.
Prophet Abiona said God is calling not only CAC members but all Christians, irrespective of denomination, especially those who left the church due to the crisis, to return and join hands for a global revival.
As part of the renewed call, he announced the Babalola Mega Crusade, tagged “The Old Path,” which he said is aimed at restoring prayer, holiness, unity and the manifest power of the Holy Spirit, as exemplified in the ministry of Apostle Babalola.
The crusade is scheduled to hold in Ado-Ekiti from Monday, January 12 to Friday, January 16, 2026, and in Ilogbo-Ekiti from Sunday, January 25 to Thursday, January 29, 2026.
While feeding answers to questions about the cause of the crisis, the prophet attributed the prolonged leadership crisis to “hunger for power, money and greed.”
“Because there is crisis, the three of them claim to be in charge of CAC worldwide. This has been going on for years. As far back as 1990, there were two factions. The problem was created by Oluseye, who later swore an affidavit before he died,” he said.
He revealed that his calls for unity have often been resisted, recounting how he was arrested and detained at the Iyaganku Testing Ground cell in Ibadan on January 15, 2016.
“I am an integral part of the CAC. I am 78 years old. I served as chairman and Assistant General Evangelist representing Edo and Delta states in 1996, and we started over 25 churches in Edo State,” he stated.
Prophet Abiona also accused the Nigerian authorities of complicity, alleging that CAC certificates were issued to different factions for the same ministry, thereby worsening the crisis.
“This renewed call is another divine message from our founder, Apostle Joseph Ayodele Babalola,” he concluded, urging leaders and members to embrace unity for the healing of the church and the nation.
