The African Democratic Congress has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, of interfering in the ongoing elections in Abuja, alleging that his presence at polling units could compromise the credibility of the exercise.
The party, in a statement issued on Saturday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, condemned what it described as Wike’s movement around polling centres under the guise of monitoring the election.
According to the ADC, the minister’s actions amounted to direct interference, stressing that he is not a registered voter in the Federal Capital Territory and holds no constitutional responsibility in the conduct of elections.
The party further argued that Wike’s presence at polling units while voting was ongoing could intimidate voters and electoral officials, describing the development as inappropriate and capable of undermining public confidence in the process.
The ADC also alleged incidents of voter suppression and intimidation in parts of the FCT, claiming that some security personnel were working in collaboration with agents of the All Progressives Congress.
It equally raised concerns over disruptions affecting the Independent National Electoral Commission Result Viewing Portal, known as IReV, which it said remained inaccessible while results were being collated.
The party described the situation as suspicious and called on the electoral body to urgently restore full functionality of the portal and provide a public explanation for the disruption.
While urging its supporters to remain peaceful, the ADC advised party agents and voters to stay vigilant and properly document any incidents observed during the election process.
