Church Expels Newlywed Woman For Refusing Sex With Spouse

The Holiness Revival Movement Worldwide has expelled a newly married woman, identified simply as Oyiza, from its congregation following allegations that she refused to consummate her marriage with her husband, Isaac.

The couple, who resided in Ibadan, Oyo State, were married on September 6, 2025, after completing their traditional rites in Okene, Kogi State, as well as a court wedding in Ibadan. Oyiza, said to be an indigene of Kogi State, reportedly began expressing reservations about the union shortly after the ceremony.

Sources told Saturday PUNCH that the marriage soon ran into difficulties when the bride allegedly resisted her husband’s attempts at intimacy, insisting that she did not love him. 

She was also said to have accused her mother of pressuring her into accepting the marriage.

Efforts by both families and church leaders to resolve the dispute reportedly failed, as mediation meetings held over several months yielded no agreement between the couple. 

The situation eventually escalated to the church’s leadership.

In a video shared on the church’s YouTube channel in February, the International Director of the ministry, Pastor Paul Rika, announced that Oyiza had been expelled after about five months of unsuccessful counselling and reconciliation efforts.

During the announcement, the cleric condemned her actions and accused her of bringing embarrassment to the church, while alleging spiritual misconduct. 

He stated that the church had excommunicated her following what he described as persistent refusal to fulfil marital obligations.

Isaac, speaking on the development, said Oyiza initially consented to the marriage proposal, prompting the church’s marriage committee to approve wedding preparations. 

According to him, she later developed doubts months before the ceremony but eventually assured counsellors she was convinced to proceed.

He explained that although the marriage was formalised after the traditional and court ceremonies, problems resurfaced immediately afterward. 

He claimed his wife repeatedly told him she no longer had feelings for him and requested delays whenever he sought intimacy, despite counselling sessions organised by church leaders.

Isaac added that attempts by pastors and family members to reconcile the couple proved unsuccessful, alleging that his wife frequently insisted there was “no love, no joy, no peace” in the relationship and at times accused him of attempted rape whenever he initiated intimacy.
