Alhaja Modinat Abosede Adedibu, wife of the late political strongman, Chief Lamidi Ariyibi Akanji Adedibu, has shared the remarkable story of how she became married to the famed Oloosa of Molete.
In a recent interview, Alhaja Abosede recounted that Baba once told her plainly that God had instructed him to marry her, adding that a divine sign would confirm it in due time.
According to her, the sign indeed manifested. She recalled that during her very first visit to Chief Adedibu’s residence, one of his wives personally showed her the way to Baba’s room.
Rather than directing her through the longer route, the wife asked her to pass through her private passage, an act Alhaja Abosede described as both symbolic and affirming.
“When Baba wanted to marry me, he informed only one of his three wives,” she said. “That wife later told the other two, and they all accepted me wholeheartedly.”
She added that the relationship among them remained warm and respectful throughout their lives.
“Until they passed on, we maintained a cordial relationship. They treated me very well. They were good women and devoted wives.”
Chief Lamidi Ariyibi Akanji Adedibu, popularly referred to as Ìdá Méjì Ibadan ti won npe leyan kàn oso, was an aristocratic power broker in Oyo State who rose to become the Ekarun Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Widely regarded as a towering figure in both the political and traditional history of Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu was a grassroots politician, godfather, and renowned kingmaker.
He played a pivotal role in the emergence of Governor Rashidi Ladoja, now the Olubadan of Ibadanland; and Adebayo Alao-Akala who is now late.
Through his famous “Molete School of Politics,” he mentored and produced several prominent political figures, including Teslim Folarin, Azeem Gbolarumi, Akintola (SAN), Taofeek Arapaja, among many others.
Chief Adedibu was also well known for feeding thousands of people daily and for his fearless chastisement of recalcitrant politicians.
