Police Investigate Alleged Defilement Of Six-Year-Old In Ibadan, Retrieve Illicit Drugs

The Oyo State Police Command has commenced an investigation into an alleged attempted defilement of a six-year-old girl in Ibadan, even as the Command announced the interception of a drug stockpiling operation that led to the recovery of illicit substances.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, and made available to journalists in Ibadan.

According to the statement, operatives of the Command are currently investigating a distressing case of attempted defilement involving the minor, who was allegedly coerced and indecently assaulted on several occasions in December 2025 while hawking at Onikeke, Ayegun area of Ibadan.

The suspect, identified as 65-year-old Ibrahim Raheem, was arrested and reportedly confessed to indecently abusing the child, though he denied having carnal knowledge of her.

Following the discovery of the incident, the victim was immediately taken to a hospital for comprehensive medical examination, while socio-psychological support was also provided to address the trauma she suffered.

In view of the sensitive nature of the case, the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, CP Femi Haruna directed that the matter be transferred to the Command’s Gender Desk for discreet and professional investigation.

The Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting vulnerable children and ensuring that perpetrators of sexual and gender-based violence are brought to justice, urging members of the public to continue providing credible information to aid law enforcement efforts.

Meanwhile, in a related development, the Police Command also announced the recovery of various quantities of suspected illicit drugs from a criminal hideout in Ibadan.

DSP Olayinka stated that the operation was carried out following credible intelligence received from a strategic partner, which indicated that an apartment along Abanise Street, Academy area, Olomi, Ibadan, was being used to stockpile large quantities of illicit drugs.

The premises were allegedly operated by one Oluwadamilare Adedayo, a male resident of the area.

Upon swift deployment of detectives to the location, a thorough search of the apartment and its surroundings led to the recovery of nine bags of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, 101 wraps of dried leaves suspected to be Canadian Loud, as well as other hard drugs.

The exhibits were secured, effectively disrupting what the Police described as a suspected drug distribution network within the area.

The suspect, however, was not found at the scene, prompting the launch of intensive surveillance and a coordinated manhunt on the directive of the Commissioner of Police.

CP Haruna commended the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun for his strategic leadership and continued support for intelligence-led policing across the country.

He also praised the collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force, other security agencies, and community stakeholders, whose timely intelligence contributed to the success of the operation.

The Police Command reiterated its resolve to sustain the fight against crime and drug-related activities in the state, while urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information, noting that security remains a collective responsibility.
