One of the health workers abducted from a primary healthcare centre in Akure, Ondo State, has recounted the traumatic experience she and her colleagues suffered in the hands of gunmen.
The survivor, Omolabake Kayode, said the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday at the Comprehensive Primary Health Centre located in the Oke Ijebu area.
She explained that the assailants arrived in a bus at about 2am and forcefully seized her alongside two other staff members.
Kayode stated that while some workers initially hid in restrooms, the attackers found them, assaulted them and seized their phones.
She said the victims were later taken to a secluded area along the Akure-Ondo expressway.
According to her, the kidnappers forced them to undress and demanded access to their bank accounts.
She added that the criminals emptied their accounts and threatened to kill them if they disobeyed instructions.
Kayode revealed that the attackers eventually fled the scene, abandoning them unclothed in the bush.
She noted that they later made their way to a correctional centre in Olokuta, where officials contacted Amotekun operatives.
The Amotekun Corps Commander, Adetunji Adeleye, confirmed the rescue, adding that the victims are currently receiving treatment, while another abducted man and his son were also freed in a separate operation.
