Kwankwaso Dumps NNPP, Urges Loyalists To Join ADC

Former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party, citing the need to reposition himself amid ongoing political developments in the country.

Kwankwaso, who flew the party’s presidential flag in the 2023 general election, announced his decision in a statement released on Sunday, confirming that his resignation takes immediate effect.

He described the move as a difficult but necessary step, noting that his decision was influenced by the changing dynamics within Nigeria’s political space, which he said required a strategic realignment.

The former governor stated that although he had remained loyal and committed to the party, the current political climate made it imperative for him to align with a platform he believes offers a stronger chance of driving meaningful change.

 

Kwankwaso expressed gratitude to the party’s leadership, particularly the National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, as well as members of the National Working Committee and other organs of the party, for their support during his time in the NNPP.

He also acknowledged the contributions of party stakeholders at various levels, including members of the Board of Trustees, National Executive Committee, and grassroots leaders, for their dedication and loyalty.

In addition, the former presidential candidate appreciated supporters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, praising their commitment and assuring them of continued collaboration in pursuit of national progress.

 

While he did not immediately disclose his next political destination, Kwankwaso hinted that his next move would be guided by the objective of contributing more effectively to Nigeria’s development.

Meanwhile, sources within the African Democratic Congress and the NNPP indicated that the former governor is expected to formally join the ADC in the coming days.

Insiders disclosed that a formal declaration could take place in Kano, where top party officials, including David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, are expected to receive him into the party.

Further findings revealed that Kwankwaso may be joined in the move by a former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Aminu Gwarzo, as political realignments gather momentum ahead of the next electoral cycle.
