The state's deputy governor, Mani Malam Mummuni, announced the defection of the state’s leadership to the ruling party on Monday, March 9, 2026.
In a viral video, Malam Mummuni announced on behalf of Governor Dauda Lawal that the state leadership had formally aligned with the ruling party.
The development comes amid growing pressure from political groups and influential figures in Zamfara who have been urging Lawal to align with the ruling party at the federal level.
