Defence Minister General Christopher Musa, rtd, has convened a high-level meeting with Nigeria’s top military leaders to address escalating security threats across the country.
The gathering comes as recent attacks on military installations in the North-East and the killing of three Nigerian Army commanding officers have raised concerns over national safety.
Gen Musa is joined by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke; and Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abass.
Security experts from key agencies, including the National Intelligence Agency, are also present to provide intelligence briefings and strategic recommendations.
“The situation demands coordinated action,” a senior official said. “We are reviewing current operations and planning enhanced measures to protect both civilians and our personnel.”
Recent incidents in Borno State, where three Lieutenant-Colonels were killed, have prompted urgent discussions on troop deployments, base security, and intelligence sharing.
Officials noted that the meeting would focus on strengthening early warning systems and improving collaboration between military and intelligence units to curb insurgent attacks.
“This is a critical juncture for national security,” the source added. “Decisive steps are necessary to ensure the safety of all Nigerians and maintain operational readiness.”
