The National President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, Musiliu Ayinde Akinsanya, has reaffirmed his position as leader of the union following a leadership tussle at its national secretariat.
Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, reacted after reports that Tajudeen Baruwa took control of the union’s headquarters, citing court rulings in his favour.
The development has heightened tension within the union, with both parties laying claim to the leadership of the organisation.
However, MC Oluomo dismissed the reported takeover, describing it as illegal and not in line with due process.
In a statement shared on his Instagram page on Monday, he characterised the action as a forceful occupation of the secretariat.
He maintained that the legal dispute over the union’s leadership had not been concluded, noting that the judgment being referenced did not involve him directly.
According to him, the ruling has already been appealed, with a stay of execution in place, making any move to enforce it premature.
He added that he had refrained from engaging Baruwa or any other party due to ongoing court proceedings, insisting that the matter should be resolved through lawful means.
Akinsanya urged members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers to remain calm and avoid actions capable of escalating tensions, adding that security agencies were monitoring the situation to maintain order.
