Rivers APC Suspends Fubara Indefinitely

The Ward 4 leadership of the All Progressives Congress in Bonny Local Government Area of Rivers State has placed party member Fubara Dagogo on indefinite suspension after he initiated legal proceedings against the party over its forthcoming convention.

Party officials at the ward level said the decision followed Dagogo’s move to seek judicial intervention aimed at stopping the planned convention and the South-South zonal congress.

Dagogo had earlier approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, asking the court to halt the party’s congress and compel the APC to recognise his eligibility to contest for the position of National Vice-Chairman for the South-South zone.

In his suit, Dagogo argued that he was denied the opportunity to participate in the race despite paying ₦5.1 million for the nomination form. 

 

According to him, the party allegedly failed to provide the form after receiving the payment.

He also asked the court to invalidate any election conducted without his participation and requested N100 million in damages over the alleged exclusion.

However, leaders of the Ward 4 executive committee said his decision to drag the party to court violated internal rules and amounted to conduct detrimental to the party.

Ward Chairman Richard Ibani explained that the resolution was reached after a meeting of the ward executive committee held on March 16.

Ibani said the ward leadership viewed the court action as a breach of party discipline and an act capable of undermining the organisation’s reputation.

“No member is expected to bypass the party’s internal dispute mechanisms and proceed directly to court over issues that can be resolved within the structure of the party,” he said.

The suspension notice was also endorsed by the Ward Secretary, Donald Jumbo, along with 21 other members of the ward executive committee.

According to the ward leadership, the decision was based on alleged violations of provisions contained in Article 21 of the APC Constitution.

The statement further accused Dagogo of engaging in actions that could bring the party into public disrepute and undermine its internal processes.

“Our members are repeatedly advised to respect the party’s constitution and avoid actions capable of embarrassing the organisation,” the ward officials said. “Unfortunately, the conduct in question clearly contradicts those principles.”

Consequently, the ward executive committee declared that the suspension takes immediate effect and urged the party’s state secretariat to ratify the decision and take further administrative steps.
