Tinubu Returns To Nigeria After UK State Visit

President Bola Tinubu on Friday arrived in Nigeria following a two-day state visit to the United Kingdom, marking a significant diplomatic engagement between both countries.

The President, accompanied by the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, landed to a warm reception by top government officials, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio. A video shared by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare, showed the moment the presidential aircraft touched down.

“A President arrives home. Excitement as President Tinubu returns to Nigeria after a resoundingly successful state visit to the UK,” Dare stated.

The visit, held between March 18 and 19, 2026, was Nigeria’s first official state visit to the UK in 37 years, with the last recorded in 1989.

Tinubu had departed Abuja earlier in the week, arriving at London Stansted Airport on Tuesday ahead of the scheduled engagements.

During the visit, King Charles III and Queen Camilla hosted the Nigerian leader at Windsor Castle, where he was accorded full state honours, including a ceremonial parade and carriage procession.

The President also led a Nigerian delegation to a state banquet organised by the British monarch, where he reflected on the support he received from the UK during Nigeria’s years under military rule and reaffirmed the long-standing relationship between both nations.

In his remarks, King Charles III described the relationship between Nigeria and the United Kingdom as a partnership built on mutual respect, citing strong cultural, economic, and historical ties.

Tinubu also held bilateral talks with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, focusing on deepening cooperation across key sectors.

As part of the visit, both countries signed several agreements, including a £746 million financing deal involving UK Export Finance, the Nigerian Ports Authority, and the Federal Ministry of Finance.

Additionally, Nigeria and the UK reached a new agreement to facilitate the repatriation of failed asylum seekers, visa violators, and convicted individuals, aimed at strengthening migration management and collaboration between both nations.
