JUST IN: Tinubu Reshuffles Cabinet, Sacks Wale Edun as Finance Minister

 

President Bola Tinubu has carried out a significant adjustment in his cabinet, removing Wale Edun from his position as Minister of Finance and appointing Taiwo Oyedele as his replacement in a move aimed at economic reform.

The announcement was made on Tuesday through an official communication issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, confirming what it described as a “minor but strategic cabinet reorganization” approved by the presidency.

Under the new arrangement, Edun, who previously served as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, has been directed to formally hand over responsibilities to Oyedele, who now assumes leadership of the ministry alongside the economy coordination role.

A separate adjustment also affected the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, where Muttaqha Rabe Darma (PhD) has been nominated as minister-designate, pending further administrative processes.

Additionally, Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa is expected to complete handover duties to the Minister of State within the same ministry, as part of the broader restructuring exercise.

The directive, contained in a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, stated that all transition processes must be concluded by Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Akume explained that the shake-up is intended to improve coordination within the federal executive structure and strengthen policy delivery, particularly in the economic sector. 

He stated, “These adjustments are designed to deepen synergy across ministries and enhance the performance of government programmes under the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

He further added that the President acted within constitutional provisions guiding ministerial appointments and reshuffles, noting that Tinubu exercised powers granted under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

The statement also conveyed appreciation from the President to outgoing officials for their service, while assuring that further administrative adjustments remain possible as part of ongoing governance reforms.
