The Peoples Democratic Party and the African Democratic Congress have agreed to support a single presidential candidate for the 2027 general election in a move aimed at strengthening opposition unity ahead of the next national poll.
The decision was announced on Saturday during an opposition summit held in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, where leaders of both parties met to discuss a possible alliance against the ruling party.
Chairman of the summit, Tanimu Turaki, said the two parties resolved to avoid splitting opposition votes by presenting one consensus candidate in the presidential race.
According to him, the agreement formed part of a broader strategy to build a stronger coalition capable of mounting a serious challenge in the 2027 election.
The summit brought together key stakeholders from the two parties, including allies of Seyi Makinde and former Senate President David Mark, who have both been linked to ongoing talks on opposition cooperation.
Party officials said further consultations would continue in the coming months to determine the framework for selecting the joint candidate and managing the alliance ahead of the polls.
