Bauchi Gov, Bala Mohammed Finally Dumps PDP For APM

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party and joined the Allied Peoples Movement, citing unresolved internal disputes within his former party.

 

The governor announced his defection on Saturday after a stakeholders’ meeting convened to assess the fallout of the Supreme Court ruling on the PDP’s leadership tussle and chart a new political direction.

Mohammed disclosed that he had spent over a week in Abuja consulting with key party figures in a bid to address the lingering crisis but admitted that the efforts did not yield the expected outcome.

He said the apex court’s decision, which invalidated parallel conventions organised by rival factions, had further destabilised the party and created uncertainty about its leadership structure.

“The judgment has significantly altered the political landscape and left the party in a precarious position,” he stated.

The governor explained that the ruling effectively rendered both factions without legal backing, leaving the Board of Trustees to temporarily oversee party affairs, a situation he said had deepened confusion.

“After wide consultations, it became evident that our attempts to restore order have not achieved the desired results,” Mohammed added.

While expressing gratitude to the PDP for providing a platform for his political rise, the governor said the decision to leave was taken in the interest of governance and political stability.

“We cannot afford to leave our people without a viable political platform. This decision is not borne out of bitterness but necessity,” he said.

Mohammed described his move to the APM as a strategic step to ensure continuity and electoral competitiveness, noting that the party is free from legal complications.

He also revealed that members of the State Executive Council aspiring to contest elective positions had stepped down in compliance with relevant laws.

Outlining the transition plan, the governor said a compliance committee had been set up, while processes such as membership registration, engagement with party leadership, and coordination with the Independent National Electoral Commission were already underway.

He urged his supporters to remain united, stressing that the move was a calculated effort to reposition politically.

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, formally welcomed Mohammed and his supporters into the party.

Dantalle described the APM as a disciplined and transparent platform committed to national interest, adding that the governor’s entry would strengthen the party’s structure.

He commended Mohammed’s leadership in Bauchi State and assured the defectors of a crisis-free environment guided strictly by the party’s constitution.

The APM chairman subsequently presented the governor with his membership card and party insignia, marking his official induction into the party.
