BREAKING: Tinubu Appoints 39-Year-Old Aina as New JAMB Registrar

President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Prof. Segun Aina as the incoming Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), marking a leadership transition that will take effect after the exit of the incumbent registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, in July 2026.

The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the Presidency, Aina will formally assume duties upon the completion of Oloyede’s second tenure on July 31, 2026.

A professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Aina is widely regarded for his expertise in examination technology systems, digital infrastructure, and reforms within public institutions. He brings over 15 years of experience spanning educational technology and institutional development.

The Presidency further noted that Aina holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.

He reportedly began his engagement with JAMB during his National Youth Service, later contributing to examination integrity and ICT reforms across key assessment bodies, including the National Examinations Council and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board.

At 39, Aina is noted to have become one of the youngest professors of Computer Engineering in the country and is expected to emerge as the youngest registrar in the history of JAMB.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the incoming registrar would consolidate on the reforms initiated under Oloyede, while deepening digital transformation and operational efficiency within the examination body.
