The Oyo State Government has announced plans to expand its waste management infrastructure with the construction of seven new sanitary landfill sites across the state.
The Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Honorable Ademola Aderinto, disclosed this while speaking at a gathering in Ibadan, the state capital.
He explained that the government has begun a structured process to identify, review, and phase out these illegal dump sites while strengthening proper waste management systems.
As part of the initiative, Aderinto said the government has commenced work on the new designated sanitary landfill sites across Oyo State.
The facilities, he added, will meet environmental and public health standards to ensure safer and more efficient waste disposal.
According to the commissioner, the project will form part of broader efforts to modernize sanitation infrastructure and reduce environmental risks associated with indiscriminate dumping.
