The incident occurred on Thursday when the Volkswagen Golf saloon car was conveying passengers from Bagega to Anka in Anka Local Government Area of the state.
A security operative involved in the rescue operation told PREMIUM TIMES that six passengers died instantly following the explosion.
According to the source, emergency responders arrived at the scene more than 20 minutes after the blast.
The injured victims, including a woman, her child and six men, were taken to the Primary Healthcare Centre in Bagega for treatment.
A resident of Bagega, whose brother was among those injured, said the family received information about the incident from a soldier.

“When I reached the hospital, I learnt that it was a bomb planted by bandits on the road,” the resident said.
The witness requested anonymity due to security concerns.
The spokesperson for the Zamfara State Police Command, Yazid Abubakar, did not respond to calls, SMS or WhatsApp messages seeking comment on the incident.
Anka and the surrounding communities have remained hotspots for terrorist and bandit activities in western Zamfara State.
Before December 2024, explosions linked to improvised explosive devices were relatively uncommon in the state.
However, several cases have since been recorded, especially after notorious bandit leader Dogo Gide reportedly planted multiple explosive devices in parts of Zamfara.
Reports indicate that at least six explosion-related incidents have occurred in the state this year, particularly along the Tsafe-Funtua highway and in parts of Anka Local Government Area.
