The African Democratic Congress has dismissed speculations surrounding the silence of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, following his nomination as the running mate to the party’s 2027 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, said there was no crisis within the party, stressing that Amaechi’s failure to publicly acknowledge the nomination should not be interpreted as a sign of disagreement.
Speaking during a television interview monitored on Monday, Abdullahi questioned the expectation that Amaechi must personally announce his acceptance of the vice-presidential slot.
According to him, political parties traditionally make such announcements after internal consultations and agreements have been reached, adding that the process leading to Amaechi’s emergence was properly followed.
He maintained that no contrary statement had been issued by Amaechi since the announcement, arguing that the absence of a public reaction did not indicate uncertainty over the nomination.
Abdullahi declined to disclose details of discussions that preceded the decision but insisted that the party adhered to due process before naming Amaechi as its vice-presidential candidate.
He added that both Atiku and Amaechi would be formally presented to Nigerians at the appropriate time, noting that preparations for the 2027 election were still at an early stage and that campaigns had yet to commence.
The ADC spokesman also said the party was focused on strengthening internal democracy and institutional processes, claiming it remained one of the few political parties to have conducted a nationwide internal election involving members across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
