Oyebanji Wins Second Term as APC Sweeps Ekiti Guber Poll

The Independent National Electoral Commission announced the result in the early hours of Sunday, declaring the incumbent governor winner after he recorded a commanding lead over candidates of the opposition parties across the state's 16 local government areas.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress has secured a second term in office after emerging victorious in the Ekiti State governorship election conducted on Saturday.

The Returning Officer for the election and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Prof. Adenike Oladiji, made the declaration at the State Collation Centre in Ado-Ekiti, saying the APC candidate fulfilled all legal requirements to be returned elected.

According to the final figures released by the commission, Oyebanji garnered 319,224 votes to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Olumayokun Oluyede, who polled 40,533 votes, and the African Democratic Congress candidate, Dare Bejide, who secured 12,872 votes.

Prof. Oladiji stated that the governor, having scored the highest number of valid votes and satisfied constitutional provisions, was duly returned as the winner of the election.

INEC's statistics showed that 988,251 voters were registered for the poll, while 384,940 voters were accredited. Out of the 382,109 votes cast, 375,777 were declared valid.

The results indicated a dominant performance by the APC candidate, who won in all 16 local government areas of the state. The victory underscored the ruling party's continued political strength in Ekiti.

One of the major highlights of the election was the outcome in Efon Local Government Area, the hometown of PDP candidate Oluyede. Despite enjoying home support, the opposition candidate was defeated in the council as Oyebanji polled 8,742 votes against the PDP's 2,051 votes, while the ADC secured 201 votes.

The APC also recorded overwhelming victories in key councils, including Ado, Ekiti West, Irepodun/Ifelodun, Ikole, Ekiti East and Ijero local government areas, further widening the margin between the governor and his challengers.

In Ado Local Government, the state's most populous council, the APC secured 38,026 votes compared to the PDP's 3,817 votes and ADC's 1,054 votes. Similar voting patterns were recorded across several other local governments as the ruling party maintained a clear lead throughout the collation process.
