37 Abducted, Child Killed as Bandits Raid Sokoto Communities

No fewer than 37 people have been abducted, and a child killed in a violent raid that also left several residents injured and triggered widespread panic across affected communities.

The incident further deepens concerns over escalating insecurity targeting rural populations and vulnerable households.

Security sources and community accounts indicate that armed attackers stormed residential areas, engaging local defenders in prolonged confrontations before forcing their way into homes and taking residents hostage. 

Several individuals were said to have escaped during the early hours following the assault, while others sustained varying degrees of injury.

The attack occurred across Tarah and Takatsaba communities in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, following coordinated incursions reportedly led by armed bandits identified as loyalists of Bello Turji. 

The assailants first clashed with local vigilante groups for about an hour before abducting residents, including women and children, from the Tarah community.

According to reports shared by security analyst Bakatsine on Thursday, the attackers later advanced to Takatsaba, where they abducted 37 individuals and killed a 10-year-old child. 

Community members further disclosed that about 10 people managed to escape and return to safety early this morning.

Moreover, several injured victims were left behind as the fear of improvised explosive devices allegedly planted along the route to the General Hospital in Sabon Birni delayed evacuation efforts. 

The suspicion forced rescuers to proceed cautiously, worsening the condition of some of the wounded residents awaiting urgent medical attention.
