All South-East Govs Back Tinubu’s 2027 Bid – Uzodimma

Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma has announced that the five governors of the South-East region have agreed to support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in office.

Uzodimma, who chairs the South-East Governors’ Forum (SEGF), made the disclosure yesterday during an engagement with members of the Imo State Elders Council and traditional rulers in Owerri.

The governor said the decision was based on what he described as Tinubu’s visible contributions to the development of the region since assuming office under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to him, the governors assessed the administration’s policies and projects before deciding to continue working with the president.

“The South-East has made its choice. Our people are interested in results and not political sentiments. What matters is what has been achieved and the evidence is clear,” Uzodimma said.

He added that the region’s governors had reviewed their options and concluded that supporting Tinubu aligns with their desire to contribute to Nigeria’s broader development.

“We, the five governors of the South-East, have decided to work with President Bola Tinubu because we want to be active participants in building a stronger Nigeria,” he said.

Uzodimma disclosed that the governors would soon embark on a joint visit to the presidential villa to formally strengthen their partnership with the federal government.

Highlighting key projects linked to the Tinubu administration, the Imo governor pointed to the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC) as a major intervention aimed at tackling the region’s developmental challenges.

He said the commission’s creation and commencement of operations marked a significant milestone, especially with the federal government providing the necessary support for its take-off.

Uzodimma also mentioned the planned $3 billion Eastern Rail Corridor project, which is expected to connect Port Harcourt through the South-East to Maiduguri.

The governor said the rail project would improve trade, transportation and economic integration across the region.

He further referenced the construction of access roads connected to the Second Niger Bridge, including the dual carriageway covering communities such as Umunya, Ogbunike, Ogidi, Nkpor and Asaba.

According to him, the corridor, which includes several bridges, will enhance movement of goods and people between the South-East and other parts of the country.

The rehabilitation and restart of commercial operations on the Port Harcourt-Aba railway line were also listed among the administration’s achievements in the region.

Uzodimma said the impact of federal government policies had extended beyond infrastructure, citing improved security efforts, increased allocations to states and student loan initiatives as areas benefiting residents.

He urged traditional leaders and elders in Imo to continue supporting the implementation of the state’s Charter of Equity, describing it as a framework for maintaining fairness, stability and political harmony.

The governor’s comments come days after Abia State Governor Alex Otti, a leading figure in the opposition Labour Party, praised Tinubu’s economic reforms, describing them as bold steps aimed at addressing Nigeria’s challenges.
