Bandits Kill 30, Burn Houses in Fresh Kaduna Community Attack

A quiet farming community in Kaduna State woke to unimaginable loss on Monday after suspected bandits swept through in the middle of the night.

At least 30 people, many of them women and children, were killed in Naridom, a village in Chawai Chiefdom under Kauru Local Government Area, following the attack. 

The gunmen struck between midnight and 1 a.m. and stayed for more than three hours, turning homes into killing grounds.

Survivors say the attackers moved with ruthless purpose. They fired into houses, chased fleeing residents, and set buildings ablaze. 

By the time the shooting stopped, four shops and two houses had been reduced to ashes. 

One resident who managed to hide nearby later spoke to correspondents on Monday morning of the fear that gripped everyone. 

“The noise of the guns went on and on. We could only pray in the dark and hope they would leave before they found us.”

The human cost became clearer as daylight arrived, with neighbours discovering that one family had been almost completely wiped out. Five children of a man known as Mr. Emma lay among the dead.

“Five children from the same home,” another villager said while helping to gather the bodies. “Their mother is broken. The whole place feels empty now.”

Throughout the morning, residents continued recovering the dead from the ruins and the surrounding bush. Names were still being compiled as more remains were brought in.

As of the time of filing this report, families are still searching for missing relatives while preparing to bury those already found. 

Many describe the attack as one of the darkest moments the community has endured.

Locals are now appealing to both security forces and the Kaduna State government for stronger protection. 

They said villages across Chawai Chiefdom and wider Kauru have faced repeated raids, and people no longer feel safe in their own homes.

The Kaduna State Police Command had not issued any official comment by the time this report was filed. Repeated calls to the police spokesperson went unanswered.
