Malami’s Prosecution Won’t Stop 2027 Ambition – ADC

The Kebbi State chapter of the African Democratic Congress has declared that the ongoing prosecution of former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), will not weaken the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The party, in a communiqué issued after a meeting of its state leadership in Sokoto over the weekend, described the legal action against Malami as politically driven and insisted it remained committed to unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress in the next general election.

The communiqué was jointly signed by the state chairman of the party, Engr. Sufiyanu Bala, and the chairman of its Elders Forum, Alhaji Shehu Aliyu Sambawa.

According to the ADC, the Federal Government is allegedly deploying anti-corruption agencies and parts of the judiciary to intimidate opposition politicians ahead of the 2027 polls.

The party, however, maintained that it was not opposed to lawful investigations or prosecution of any individual, but condemned what it described as the use of state institutions to suppress political opponents.

It said no amount of alleged political persecution would distract the party from its objective of defeating the APC in the 2027 elections, adding that the ruling party was attempting to make opposition politics difficult through intimidation.

The ADC further argued that the current administration's policies had alienated many Nigerians, expressing confidence that voters would reject the APC at the polls.

Speaking on Malami's case, the party alleged that the petition, investigation, arrest, detention and prosecution of the former minister were orchestrated to achieve a predetermined political objective. It also questioned his continued detention over what it described as a bailable offence.

The party further claimed that Malami's properties were searched in his absence and alleged that the value of assets linked to him was deliberately exaggerated to damage his reputation, insisting that his successful legal career before becoming Attorney-General in 2015 had been ignored.
